The sport of dog surfing has grown considerably in popularity in the past few years due to a growing number of competitions and the national media attention that those events have received.

You read that correctly.  Dog surfing.  As in, dogs riding waves on surf boards.  It almost always involves a dog standing on the board and a human pushing the dog surfer into wave.  As far fetched as it sounds, the sport has grown enough in popularity that there are now several dog surfing competitions.

The largest of the competitions is the Loews Surf Dog Competition, held annually in San Diego.  In 2009, there were hundreds of dog participants and many hundreds, if not thousands, of spectators. Purina’s Incredible Dog Challenge in San Diego included a dog surfing competition this year.  Another competition, the Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon, takes place in the fall, also in San Diego.  These events raise money for charities.

These competitions, however obscure sounding, have been featured on local and national media outlets, including NBC’s The Today Show, ESPN, The Baltimore Sun, and The San Diego Union Tribune.

In San Diego, in particular, the spike in popularity has also been helped by the accessibility of dog friendly beaches.  These beaches provide a place to teach dogs to surf, sit and watch other dogs surf, or a place for photographers to capture great dog surfing images.  These beaches include North Beach at Del Mar, Imperial Beach, and Dog Beach in Ocean Beach.

A growing number of great dog surfing photos and videos can be found online.  There is even a book, The Dog’s Guide to Surfing: Hanging Ten with Man’s Best Friend, as well as a popular calendar featuring San Diego dogs surfing every month.

If you have a dog and surfboard, give it a shot.  Dog surfing is a fun way to spend an afternoon at the beach, and does not require big waves.  Just an eager dog.

Plenty of dog surfing information, including locations, instructions, photos, videos and competition information, can be found at San Diego Dog Surfing.

Problems of Selling A Boat – How Should You Prepare?

Deciding to sell your boat is miles away from actually selling your boat for a good price. It can be quite a tedious and a disheartening job if you don’t go about it right.

Surfing in Spain . One search to compare the best watersports online. La Manga Golf one of the great golf resorts.

(ArticlesBase SC #1080715)

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/ – Surfing in Spain

A holiday to Spain would not be complete if you did not participate in some of water sports that are on offer. Surfing in Spain to motor boat hire, scuba diving and parasailing are all popular choices with holiday makers.

When you plan your trip for Surfing in Spain then you will be aware of the Spanish climate. The best part of Spain for surfing is arguably the south and east of the country with the Mediterranean Ocean. The Mediterranean style climate down the south / east of Spain is perfect for surfing. If you do decide to visit a region of Spain that has it coastline backing into the Atlantic Ocean then the temperatures will be far from similar. Even during the height of summer the Atlantic cost does not eve come close to the temperatures of the Mediterranean.

When select a location to base your surfing holiday you need to take into consideration which ocean you want, but also the season in which you plan on visiting Spain. The Atlantic coastline in spring for example will offer an environment only suitable for experienced surfers. The colder waters and unpredictable weathers will cause choppy water that a beginner should not even think about attempting to surf.

If you are a complete beginner in terms of Surfing in Spain then look out for a surfing school along the Spanish coasts. They are out there and if you can find them you will be able to learn how to surf from experienced instructors. Usually you learn on the beach before taking to the waters, and you are taught all the basic control and balancing techniques to stay upright on the surfboard for as long as possible. The prices of learning how to surf will vary among the different groups that offer lessons, so it is always a good idea to have a shop about looking for the best deal over accepting the first one you come across.

Experienced surfers who visit Spain and do not have a surf board can usually find a surf shop that will hire out equipment and charge on an hourly to daily basis. Of course if you are able to bring your own surfboard along with you on your travels then the cost of Surfing in Spain is zero. Spanish surf shops usually offer the top of the range branded equipment just like many English surf shops, so anything you might of forgot can be purchased out in Spain.

If surfing is too difficult for you to grasp then why not try a close alternative such as Windsurfing La Manga. Windsurfing is a very close relative to surfing, and is a wind sport. The surfboard is effectively modified to have a sail attached so that you have more control over direction with out falling over. The main difference between the two water sports in Spain is that with surfing you need the waves and not nessarly any wind, and windsurfing the waves are no essential however the wind is the key to propulsion.

When coming to Spain for a Surfing holiday in Spain then be sure to check out La Manga Club. Down on the coast is Murcia of which has the Mediterranean Sea and the climate that goes with it for a perfect Surfing in Spain holiday.

Benefits Of surfing

As you may have seen, surfing is when a person stands on a flat board and rides the waves, so to say. There are different manoeuvers and ways that have to be learnt. Surfing can be a lot of fun, but precautions need to taken as the sea is not a predictable playground.

Some people may think that surfing is just plain crazy, but most surfers will tell you that it’s more than that. It is the connection you make with nature. Surfing helps you leave all your worries behind. The sheer power and magnanimity of the ocean reinforces the basic thoughts we have of health, happiness and what is truly important in life.

Surfing has benefits for both the mind and body. We already know the effects surfing has on the mind, so let’s find out the benefits it has for the body. As you can imagine, wave riding cannot be easy! You need to be extremely fit. Where else do the terms “wash board abs” and “surfer bodies” come from?  Surfing is a great cardiovascular exercise where you have to work your whole body. The upper body is used to paddle and wade through the water and the lower body to guide the board through the massive waves. It’s not that surfing keeps you fit, but you also have to be in great shape to surf as you have to carry your own body weight.

Surfing strengthens the heart and is also a great energy booster that helps you in every facet of life. It also tones your muscles and helps build your endurance. It is said that surfers live well into their seventies and can defy age very easily! That’s because surfing reduces stress and helps you stay young. It may be great for the body, but the bottom line is that surfing is fun and extremely additive. Once you start, you’ll never want to stop.

The beaches of Hawaii, California, Florida, and Australia are hot spots for surfing. Surfing has its own culture and way of life. One of the biggest perks of surfing is the great bonds and friendships you build along the way. Surfing brings people together and keeps them together.

Surfing is great and you should give it a shot. http://www.soulsurfing.com.au is where you can learn to surf. They organise surfing camps and retreats. The surf camp combines yoga with surf lessons to help you with every aspect of life. Visit their website for more information.
