Having trouble getting out the door? Here are a few tips to help keep you motivated.
Pick a goal. A performance goal. Maybe a race, or just a specific workout. I recently met a woman that was so proud when she ran 30 minutes without stopping, I could tell something had really clicked with her. She is hooked.
Start slow. A beginning running program needs to be slow, easy, progressive, and hopefully enjoyable. Back in my days at Ball State University we took 12 weeks to take adults through a jog walk progression with a final goal of jogging 20-30 minutes nonstop. Read more

Self-Defense Products for Joggers
Last Updated on Friday, 12 March 2010 08:30 Written by admin Friday, 12 March 2010 08:30
Did you know that joggers are almost twice as likely to become victims of attacks as the population at large? And that doesn’t refer only to attacks by other humans; joggers are also at a higher risk of attacks by animals depending on where they live, most commonly: dogs, cougars, and bears.
Unfortunately, the majority of joggers who have survived attacks report that they were not carrying any type of self-defense product on their person at the time of the attack. Most agree that had they been armed with a self-defense product, they may have been able to ward off the attack completely, or at least escape the attack with fewer injuries.
If you are a regular jogger, you may have fallen prey to one or more of the myths which surround the use of personal self-defense products, including:
* They are bulky, heavy, and inconvenient to carry. Many joggers complain they don’t want to be weighed down with a bulky can of pepper spray, stun gun or other product. Joggers don’t realize there are self-defense products tailored especially for the jogger in small, easy to transport devices. They are packaged in tiny spray cans clip to a belt, a zipper pull or worn around the neck on a cord. Stun guns, in a range of sizes, are small enough to be concealed in the palm of the hand or clipped on similar to pepper spray

Becoming a regular participant in the activity of running has many benefits, and it is by far the easiest thing to get into. You do not need to pick up any extra accessories or gear, all you need to do is start moving your legs. Of course, it is important to have a place to run, but it is very easy to find such a place. If you do not have anywhere outside to go to, or it is excessively cold, you can always run around inside your house. Many people like to get treadmills or elliptical machines, but if you are on a budget and cannot afford that, you can actually get a lot of benefit just from running up and down the stairs. You can literally do something like that any time you want, on an impulse or with prior planning. There is no other activity that you can jump into faster than running.
Of course, there are many other organized ways to get this kind of exercise. With any kind of sport you play, there is bound to be a large amount of movement, including a lot of running. This goes for sports from football to baseball. The more running there is in the game, the better. For example, in the game of airsoft, people use replica guns to do battle with each other. It is necessary to be constantly running around in order to avoid the fire from enemy airsoft rifles, as well as achieve any objectives that you have set for yourself. Whatever you choose to do, as long as you get the proper amount of exercise, you will be able to experience the benefits.
Many people enjoy running so much they participate in the sport of running, which is better known as track and field. These are essentially many types of races that focus on endurance, speed, or a combination of both. After participating in this kind of team for a certain amount of time, you will be able to run further and longer than you ever could have before. In addition, the thrill of competition is very exciting as well, so you never have to worry about becoming bored with the activity. If you do not have the opportunity to do this, you can always do one of the activities mentioned above, including running in your own house.
